Our Mission Statement:
The mission of the Greater Houston P-16+ Council is to promote success across the education continuum - Pre-Kindergarten through College and Workforce Development - for children and young adults in the Gulf Coast area through the broadest collaboration of institutions and organizations and to serve as a model for the State of Texas.
The Goals of the Council are:
- to be a recognized convening collaboration of diverse stakeholders representing P-16+ initiatives in the greater Houston/Gulf Coast area;
- to advance the systemic, comprehensive, and seamless alignment of educational and traning experiences, P-16+, through an inventory of needs, opportunities, and replicable models in the greater Houston/Gulf Coast are and throughout the state and country;
- to promote a mindset among all children and parents that anticipates post-secondary education and training, including college-going;
- to serve as a catalyst for policy development around P-16+ student success; and
- to support the campaign of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) known as Closing the Gaps.
The guiding principles that govern the Council's work are:
- to acknowledge and encourage input from all segments of the greater Houston/Gulf Coast area;
- to be accountable by establishing and measuring progress toward outcomes pursued by the Council;
- to respect students' needs and community perspectives;
- to embrace the larger outcomes of quality of life for individuals, sustaining democracy, and facilitating economic and community development; and
- to ensure that the Council functions as an innovative "learning organization."
